I was so sad to learn of Marilyn’s sudden passing. My heart goes out to Bud and to Barrett and his family. Marilyn was so proud of her family, whom she loved so dearly. She talked of them often and always knew they supported her in all her endeavours, just as she supported them.
I was privileged to work with Marilyn at Fanshawe College. She became my dear friend and colleague as we worked together in the Recreation and Leisure Services Program. With our combined knowledge, insight and skills, we diligently and creatively revised the curriculum to make it a highly competitive Program within the province.
Some of my fondest memories of Marilyn were in camp settings. I remember the first time she walked on the high ropes, harnessing and re-harnessing herself in between the trees. Without a doubt she showed great courage because it was so high and so scary. Marilyn had a beautiful voice. I played the guitar & sang and together we enjoyed harmonizing around the evening camp fires. She loved canoeing, kayaking, backpacking and hiking, but she especially loved the beauties that God created for us like the lakes, trees, flowers and dazzling sunsets. Marilyn loved our students and I often heard her speak words of encouragement to students’ who truly doubted their ability to succeed. She was a great counselor.
Marilyn was so fun to work with. She had a most engaging smile and laugh that endeared students and faculty to her. As a teacher, she simply expected the students to reach the goals she had set for them, and consequently, the students never doubted her trust in them.
Though the years have passed since we worked together at Fanshawe College, my memories are bright and clear. Marilyn was indeed a wonderful person to have been a part of my life and I will always be thankful for the opportunity I had to be a part of her life.

Dear Bud & Family:
Please accept our sincere sympathy on Marilyn’s passing. As Rec Grads in “71” we were proud of graduating from the Leadership Program. We were proud when our daughter graduated from the same program when Marilyn co ordinated and expanded the enrolment. Whenever Marilyn and I crossed paths on Campus we always had a chance for a short greeting and update on Breanne’s TR career. Thanks Marilyn for mentoring my daughter and the many more lives you empowered.
RIP. Mike & Dana Lindsay

My late wife , Eileen , along with Marilyn and friend Vera got together to do a mum's day care providing many fun filled times for our kids while getting to know each other , all new to Sarnia Ontario. The get togethers blossomed into life long friendships that added many fun filled get togethers for all three families spanning years after the kids grew up. A good life is lived by the people you meet and the memories you share -- I have lots of wonderful memories of Marilyn along with her family. As Eileen always said when a dear friend or loved one passed away " Always remember whom you had and loved and not whom you had and lost ".

I grew up across the street from this beautiful woman (to be fair I probably spent more time in her home than in my own). I was always warmly welcomed and I felt like a part of the family. I remember skipping out on meals at home just so I could enjoy a dinner with Marilyn and Bud (and Barret if he happened to be home). I always looked up to them - they are two of the most loving and patient people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing and I'll always be grateful for their example.
Marilyn was incredibly kind, understanding, and selfless. It was impossible not to love her. My heart is broken from the loss and especially for her family who adores her.
The only comfort I can take from these things, if such a thing can be had, is knowing that the ones we love never really leave us. They are always in the only place that matters.

Bud, Barrett, Erin and family: We are doing our best these days to do as Marilyn would do; namely, find goodness and humour in life. Her laughter was one of the great ways she shared herself and celebrated relationships! We were so fortunate to have that laughter in our lives. We hear it still! Hoping the love of family and friends is giving you support.

I have so many great memories I could share, but the one that comes to my mind often is when Marilyn described time me how wonderful it felt to wear a particular pair of rubber boots while barefoot as she was gardening.

Bud, Barrett, Erin and family.
We are so tremendously shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden loss of Marilyn.
I was so fortunate to be one of her admiring colleagues in the Recreation and Leisure Services Program at Fanshawe College where I witnessed firsthand her strong leadership, tremendous caring and the energy she so tirelessly invested into all the students, faculty and the continuous development of the entire program. Everyone learned from Marilyn. She was a mentor to me and to so many and that person you could go to for support, guidance and endless ideas that inspired everyone around her to be better than they thought they could be.
With deepest sympathy,

Bud and Family:
So very sorry to hear of Marilyn's passing. I worked a good number of years with her at Fanshawe College in the Recreation and Leisure Services Program. I began as a part-time Professor and Marilyn mentored me and helped me with many things connected to teaching and learning. I was thrilled to spend 11 years working in that program with her and Karma and Jeff Sadler. We made a strong team and Marilyn always lit up our team meetings with her terrific sense of humour. I recall her as a person who always came prepared with an idea or a suggestion or work already completed that forwarded the path of students and other faculty in the program. She had boundless energy for teaching and I learned a lot from her! It's funny--I was just commenting to a colleague the other day about a lesson I learned about teaching from her mentorship. I remember fondly gatherings at Karma's place and your place to celebrate students, learning, and teaching together. I also have a fond memory of Marilyn taking the time to give my kids Amelia and Jake a pottery lesson. I still have the items they made on display in my home because the represented such a wonderful time in our lives! Marilyn's light and smile will be missed I know that for sure and I feel so lucky to have known and worked with her. My condolensces to your entire family.

Dear Bud and Family,
We are honoured and blessed to have known Marilyn. We were so very happy when Erin and Barret introduced you and Marilyn into our lives. There are so many joyous memories we have of Marilyn from years gone by, it is had to believe she has left us. We will miss Marilyn's ever present smile and her love of life.
There was the pottery with Colleen, time spent with her at the arena watching Tyce and Ashlyn, Christmas with Gloria, Bill and Ty and of course the grandchildren's birthdays and celebrations which she enjoyed so much.
Our heartfelt sympathies go out to you.
Love
Colleen and Cam

Marilyn was also a member of the PRO Family (Parks and Recreation Ontario). She served us well as a Board Member, Treasurer and mentor to the many students who were our members. As a kind and gentle person, Marilyn always was thankful to having be able to spend time with others. I, and other members of our team, greatly cherish the lovely pottery items she made for us and gave us when she left the board. She will truly be missed by everyone who had the good fortune to know her.

This is such a shock to everyone who knew and loved Marilyn. Great memories of great neighbours. This is also a big blow to our Central family. Take care of each other and know our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I cherished Marilyn's friendship, her warm smile, laugh and her genuine goodness. I am so glad we got to see each other regularly and our lunches were filled with stories and updates about you, and her love and pride in you all. Her life personified her giving nature from her work in the Y, all her students at Fanshawe, the important curriculum work she did for the programs there, but my favorite was the time we spent on the Board together of Parks and Recreation Ontario. I learned from Marilyn every time we met. I looked forward to our adventures, car and train rides and the laughter I knew would ensue. My heartfelt condolences, I will miss her hugs, as I am sure you will also.

Our most sincere condolences on the loss of your mother. She truly was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and friend. I had the privilege of getting to know her as we volunteered at the school together. I Will always see her bright smile sitting on the blue bench at Southwold as we waited for the kids. She always made sure to ask about my boys and I always loved to hear her excitement about her pottery, adventures with Bud and all of the activities she was running the kids to. She truly was an amazing woman! I will miss her at the school. I know you will hold her and your memories of her dear to your hearts. We are holding your family tight and thinking fondly of the amazing woman you were fortunate to call Mom.
