Obituary of Gladys Eileen Walker

WALKER, Mrs. Gladys Eileen of St. Thomas, formerly of Ancaster, passed away peacefully at her residence, Elgin Manor, on Tuesday, May 2nd, 2017, in her 99th year. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Cecil Earl Walker (2002). Dearly loved mother of Katherine Sayer (Harold) of Dundas, Dr. David Walker (Sally) of Goderich, Mary Jane Collins (Jerome) of St. Thomas and Austin Walker (Laurie) of Sault St. Marie. Cherished grandmother of Christopher Stephens-Walker (Teara) of Great Barrier Island, New Zealand, Melissa Walker (Micah Hussey) of Stratford, Jennie Kraehling of London, Joanna Walker (James Mantelos) of Fergus, Leah Kraehling of New York City, Ryan Walker of Sault St. Marie, Karyn Bruneel (Mike) of London, Heather Collins (Dylan Robicheau) of Sarnia and Trisha Lusher-Verde of London. Loved great-grandmother of Max, Sophia (deceased), Aidan, Macy, Zoe, Celeste, Fiona and Davis. Survived by beloved cousin Helen Prowse (Guelph). Born in Mount Hope on March 5, 1919, Eileen was the daughter of the late Dr. Austin and Gladys (Pickett) Speers. As a 1940 graduate of McMaster University (Hon BSc), she worked at the Banting Institute in Toronto before happily sharing, and devoting herself to a 59 year long married life, with her best friend, Cecil. Eileen showed constant love for her family and dedication to her church. She shared her talents in her lovely needlework and sewing, gardening, and baking. She loved good books and music. She enjoyed a lively conversation and had an amazing ability to turn a phrase using her facility with words and quick sense of humour. Visitation (10:30 am), followed by Celebration of Life Service (11:30 am), will be held Saturday, May 6th at Ryerson United Church, 265 Wilson Street East, Ancaster.
