Ron’s family are saddened to announce his passing on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital. He was the beloved husband to Shirley (nee Gorvett) Dickie for 66 years. Proud father of Dale (Alice), Philip (Kristina), Susan (John), Christopher (Tracey) and Ronda (Gord). The cherished grandfather of 13 and Great Grandfather of 17. He was predeceased by his 2 brothers Ken (2020) and Paul (2021). He was born in Hamilton to Robert (1970) and May (Patrick) Dickie (1987). At age 3, the family moved to Stoney Creek. He worked hard all of his life. He picked fruit in season around his home & other jobs at a very young age. He came to Elgin County to work on a farm with a dream of his owning his own someday, which was never fulfilled. He was an over the top, dedicated employee of Geo. Dowler Fuels & Dowler Karn for 47 years. As a member of Union United Church, he served on several church boards. Following his retirement, he had the time & energy to enjoy more fully his hobbies of hunting, fishing, trapping & camping. Ron & Shirley spent summers at their camp on Manitoulin Island. Their family have great memories spent there with them. Ron had many health challenges through the years. He had been dealing with diabetes, heart failure and cancer the last 3 years. The family will plan a private service as was his wishes. Arrangements entrusted to Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570). If desired, donations to a charity of one’s choice will be gratefully acknowledged. Ron and Shirley’s family wish to thank all of the doctors, nurses and health care workers who helped care for Ron.
