Obituary of Mervyn Victor Young
YOUNG - Mervyn Victor of St Thomas, quietly and peacefully passed away on Saturday, July 9th, 2022. A graceful and gentle man to his family, kind and caring to all. We thank the intensive care staff of the St Thomas-Elgin General Hospital. Dad was born and raised in Huntsville. His parents were Gladys (nee Holinshead) & Sidney Young. He married his beautiful wife Marguerite (nee. Moulton) on July 6th 1949. Their only child, Debbie (nee. Young) Colhoun, has been supported by her cousins, Colleen Meredith, Sharon Hancock, Rosemary Hall and Brian Young; Mervyn will also be missed by Charlene, Terry, Tim, Garth, Marie and many nieces & nephews. Predeceased by all of his siblings, Grace Nickason, Marion Purdy, Gordon Young, Raymond Young and Harold Young. You may remember him as the long time “finishing” carpenter at the Huntsville Planing Mills, where he worked for 42 years of his life. Carpentry was his love & he was an exceptional craftsman. After retiring, they sold their home and moved to live with me in London since 1997. Born in November 11th, 1927. He enjoyed good health until a few months ago, when he began to decline. Constantly caring for Mom and his wonderful cat ‘Smokey”. His passing was quick and with little pain. Arrangements entrusted to the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570). Cremation has taken place. There will be a service of remembrance at Hutcheson Memorial Cemetery on Friday, September 23, 2022 at 11:30 am.
