Obituary of Brenda Joyce Dalwood

BRENDA JOYCE DALWOOD

April 8, 1952— November 14, 2022

It is with a broken heart that I announce Brenda’s sudden passing at the St. Thomas Elgin-General Hospital.  Although she was responding positively to chemotherapy, her death was caused by an unrelated health matter.  She was 70 years old.  Beloved daughter of pre-deceased parents Helen (nee Nebbitt, Windsor, Ontario) and Henry Dalwood from Chelsea, England.  She is survived by her most loving sister, Joan Cameron, and cousins in England (Doug Dalwood and family, Jim and Chris Dalwood, Stephen and Menchu Dalwood and family, Liz and Mike Reape, Jo and Dave Goldman, Chris Camm, and Rosemary Peerless) and in Canada (Christine Dalwood, Natasha Dalwood, Gail and Bruce Ahlstedt and Linda Nebbitt).  Brenda bravely fought breast cancer since December 2020.  She faced every day with a smile and great positivity.  She was a dedicated employee in whatever role she held.  She worked as a grocery store cashier, in a travel agency, as tour bus guide and for the past 20 years with Voyago as a school van driver for Special Needs Children, in a job that she was very passionate about.  Her bubbly personality was a delight to her co-workers.  Brenda lived many years in Woodstock, then Iona Station, Port Stanley, and the last six years of her life in St. Thomas in an apartment setting that she was proud to have made her home.  Brenda had many cats over the years but her favourite pet was her dog Rocky who was her constant companion for 12 years.  She loved to cook and was famous for her rum cakes. She also enjoyed crocheting, playing Pinochle, euchre, and Scrabble, as well as binge watching Hallmark movies with her sister.  She had volunteered as a Big Sister for many years.  Brenda’s memory will be cherished, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.  She was known for her infectious smile, genuine warmth and gracious and friendly nature.  She always greeted others with a cheerful attitude.  Heartfelt appreciation to Brenda’s VON Personal Support Workers; Care Partners nurses, especially her Nurse Manager Kenzie; and the wonderful nurses at the STEGH satellite chemotherapy clinic.  Special thanks to her oncologists Dr. V. Panuganty and Dr. F. Perera from the London Regional Cancer Program.  I would also like to acknowledge her friend David, to whom I am deeply indebted as he was always there to help Brenda with whatever needed doing.  My sincere gratitude to the many friends who journeyed with her through life and especially encouraged and supported her these last 2 years.  Arrangements entrusted to the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home, 31 Elgin Street, St Thomas (519-631-0570).  Cremation has taken place. There will be a Celebration of Life next April (2023) around her birthday.  If desired, donations to Pets Friends for Life would be appreciated.  Personal condolences to the family can be made at www.sjfh.ca

Those we love don’t go away. They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near.  Still loved, still missed, and always dear.
