Obituary of David Norman Morris

MORRIS - David Norman passed away at home surrounded by family on Friday, December 2, 2022 in his 78th year.  Dave is predeceased by his loving wife Elaine McGregor-Morris (2018).  He is survived by his children Paul (Sophia) Morris of Mérida, Yucatan, Mexico, Kim (Peter) Morris of Toronto, Jeffrey (Nancy) Stevenson of Canfield, and Jayne (David) Cooper of London; by his grandchildren Keegan, Zoë and River Morris, Jordan and Sara Stevenson, Tyler Edwards, and Jeffrey and May Cooper.  A position as the first director of the St. Thomas Art Gallery brought David Morris to St. Thomas over 50 years ago.  David was well known in the community for his art, teaching welding at the local college and his community work.  His sculptures can be seen in Pinafore Park and the Elevated Trail.  He had a love of art and nature and he shared his enthusiasm with many!  A private interment of ashes will be held in the Aylmer Cemetery.  Arrangements entrusted to the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home, 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570)A Celebration of David’s life will be held at the CASO Station 750 Talbot Street, St. Thomas on Saturday, January 28, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 pmIn order to disperse David’s lifetime of art out into the community that he loved and get his art out to people that will appreciate them, we are holding a silent auction during the celebration of his life.  Funds raised will be dispersed to the McGregor Morris Fund, a nature fund and a non-profit supporting children in Africa https://www.dekporschool.org/c/

The McGregor Morris Fund (A family fund dedicated to supporting Art in Public Places) was created by David and Elaine through the Elgin-St. Thomas Community Foundation.  Donations to their fund, in memory of David, would be greatly appreciated.  Personal condolences to the family can be made at www.sjfh.ca
