Obituary of Bill Stinson
STINSON- William Allan, Capt., Ret., CD passed away in the Veterans Care Program at Parkwood Institute in London, on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at the age of 82. Bill was born February 15, 1942 in Woodstock, Ontario to C. Allan Stinson and Neva P. (nee Caldwell) Stinson. He is survived by his brother Robert W. “Bob” Stinson (Gladys) and their family Brian (Lia) and Brian’s stepchildren Emily, Abhe, Kimmi and Shassy, and Judy McGonigle (Barry) and their family Rachel McGonigle (Chris), Christopher McGonigle (Maddy); and by his brother James M. “Jim” Stinson (Dianne) and Jim’s stepchildren Kirsten Knechtel (R.J.), and Kevin Kohl (Joanne). Predeceased by his parents and his sister Marjorie E. Stinson (2017).
Bill had a long career in uniform as a Cadet, in Reserves, in The Canadian Armed Forces (The Royal Canadian Engineers, and later The Canadian Military Engineers) with postings all across Canada including Alert (N.W.T.), as well as Cyprus (2 tours) and Germany. He was Commanding Officer of #7 and #2884 Royal Canadian Army Cadets Corps, and was a member and Sergeant at Arms for the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #41 Colour Guard.
Bill was a Regular Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #41 in St. Thomas and was a former member of the Monday Night Dart League at Branch #41. Bill’s family wish to thank the staff at Parkwood Veteran’s Care for their excellent care and friendliness shown to Bill.
Visitation will be held at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 from 2:00 - 4:00 & 7:00 - 9:00 pm. The funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 1:00 pm, with a Legion Service to follow immediately afterward. Interment in South Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #41 Building Fund, or the Parkwood Veterans Care Program would be appreciated.
