Obituary of Donald C. Collins

COLLINS - Donald Clayton of St. Thomas formerly of Cambridge, passed away peacefully at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Wednesday, April 15th at the age of 82. Survived by his wife Marion (Calvert), son Kevin, daughter Laurie (Richard Schultz), sisters Rosemary McArthur and Margaret ‘Peggy’ Dadson, brother Fred (Evelyn), brother-in-law Doug Schleihauf, sisters-in-law Beverly Collins, Eleanor Vandenberg, Nancy Irvine (Paul), Helen Calvert and a number of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brother George and sister Jean Schleihauf. Don was an accomplished artist, poet and graphic designer, among other things. His creativity flowed into everything he did. While living in Cambridge he volunteered with St. John’s Ambulance where he became President. Anyone who knew him, liked him. He was a giving spirit who loved people and helped out wherever needed. A wonderful friend. The poem below is one of his works. Please read and listen. LIFE We enter this world with nothing but imagination and will power. Life and experience gives us purpose so we can be complete. What is life? Life is the mind, creating itself out of itself. He will be truly missed. He touched many lives. He was one of the good ones. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570). A private gathering to celebrate Don’s life, will take place.
