Obituary of Martin Pfingstgraef
PFINGSTGRAEF - Martin
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Martin Pfingstgraef of St. Thomas on Wednesday, March 18th, at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital in his 86th year. He will be forever missed by his wife of 52 years, Maria Pfingstgraef (nee Krautner). He was a loving father, and will be greatly missed by his son, David and his wife Julie Pfingstgraef (nee Croft). He was also a very proud grandfather of Daniel and Kate Pfingstgraef all of St. Thomas. He is survived by his brother Michael and wife Patricia Pfingstgraef of Aylmer, sister-in-law Susanna and George Lutsch, and brother-in-law Steve and Jean Krautner all of London. He will be sadly missed by a number of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his mother, Maria (Eberth) and father, Michael Pfingstgraef.
Martin was born November 20th, 1929 in Waltersdorf, Romania. During WWII he and his family immigrated to Austria and then came to Canada in 1951, where he became a proud Canadian citizen. He worked, with a smile, for many years as an assistant meat manager for Loblaws and Zehrs in St. Thomas. Upon early retirement, Martin started his own company MMD Rental. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. He was a member of the Saxonia Hall, German Canadian Club of Aylmer, and served as youth advisor and president of the club. He was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Aylmer. Visitation will be held at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) on Sunday, March 22, 2015 from 1:00 to 4:00pm, with prayers at 4:00pm. The Funeral Service will take place in the funeral home chapel on Monday at 1:00pm, with Pastor John Goldsworthy officiating. Interment immediately following in Elmdale Cemetery.
