Obituary of Marilyn Johnson
JOHNSON - Marilyn Mae, passed away peacefully at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on July 22, 2014 at the age of 81. Marilyn will be lovingly remembered by her husband Allan Johnson. Dearly loved mother of Edwin “Ted” (Margaret) Johnson of London and Ronald (Sharon) Johnson of Crediton. Devoted grandmother of Leslie Johnson (Jason), Heather Johnson (Justin), Wesley Johnson (Amanda), Lisa Johnson (Reid), and Brent and Mallory. Great-grandmother of Emery and Hartley Johnson, and Alexandria. Marilyn was born May 21, 1933 in Niagara Falls, Ontario. The cherished daughter of the late Charles and Hazel Ferris. She attended John Marshall Public School and graduated from Stamford Collegiate in 1951. She commenced working with the Bank of Montreal, where she met Allan and they were married in 1953. Marilyn was predeceased by her brother Lester (Jean) Ferris, and her sisters-in-law Jane Brox and Joan Thiel. She will be remembered by her special nephew Paul Ferris, and special niece Ann McDonald, and great nephews Danny, Kenneth, David, and many other nieces and nephews. Marilyn loved the arts, most particularly church choirs, theatre, music, and opera. She was a member of Huron County Playhouse, Orchestra London, and the Grand Theatre for many years. Marilyn volunteered in the past at Valleyview Tuck Shop and Meals-on-Wheels. She was a lifelong supporter of the Toronto Maple Leafs. She was a faithful member of the United Church of Canada. With her love of singing, she was invited to join the Stamford United Church senior choir at the age of sixteen. Marilyn was a member of the United Church choirs in Bothwell, Tilbury, Delhi, Wallaceburg, Lucknow, Exeter, and in St. Thomas at First United and Central United Churches. She was also a member of the Robert Tower Singers. Marilyn was actively involved in UCW and church executives in each community, and was given a life membership of the UCW in Lucknow. Visitation will be held at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) on Thursday, July 24, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00pm. The funeral service will be held at the St. Thomas Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) 451 Wellington Street, St. Thomas on Friday at 11:00am. Interment in Exeter Public Cemetery. If desired, donations to Central United Church Roof Fund or St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Building Fund would be appreciated.
