Obituary of Dennis William Hartford

HARTFORD - Dennis William passed away peacefully with his family, brother and sisters by his side at Victoria Hospital Oncology Unit - London, in his 56th year, on October 16, 2013. He was born in St. Thomas, Ontario on July 10, 1958, the son of Orland and the late Shirley Hartford (Jan. 29, 2011). He was the fourth child in a family of six. Dennis is survived by his wife Heather and four daughters, Jessica (Scott), Michelle (Karl), Brittany (Cory) and Jessica M. (Phil), as well as his grandson Daymon. He is also survived by his siblings Shirley Ann Bird (Steve), Douglas (Diane), Donald (Jackie), Sherry Musson (Gary), Sheila Ruz (Claudio) and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In his younger years, Dennis loved to ride bikes and go swimming at Waterworks Park - via the gully at the end of Hughes Street, his favourite place. He loved exploring St. Thomas and he knew the city well. Dennis had several jobs during his lifetime in St. Thomas with his last and favourite being with Red Line Taxi. He was an avid disc golfer and loved teaching his grandson the finer points of the game. Dennis was a big fan of the Detroit Red Wings, the outdoors, and the simple life. Special thanks to the Oncology Unit at Victoria Hospital for the loving care extended to Dennis and his family during this most difficult time. Visitation will be held at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) on Sunday, October 20, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 7:00 to 9:00pm, where the funeral service will be held in the chapel on Monday at 11:00am. Cremation to follow.
