Obituary of Betty Hogsden
HOGSDEN- Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Hogsden (nee Smith) passed away peacefully at Extendicare - Port Stanley on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the age of 92. Betty will be sadly missed by her daughters Beverly (Bob) Jefferson of St. Thomas and Alana Hogsden of Fingal; by her grandchildren Paul (Jody) Jefferson of Woodstock, Christopher (Adrienne) Jefferson of St. Thomas, Adam (Tinelle) Johnston of Dresden, Kristy (Ian) Reeves of New Zealand, Lindsay (James) Blashill of Kitchener, and Jennifer (Stuart) Robinson of Ottawa; her ten great grandchildren; and by Donna Hogsden of Kitchener. Predeceased by her husband Alan Hogsden and her son Ross Hogsden. Betty was born in Montreal, Quebec on April 16, 1921 to Anne Elizabeth and Frank Smith. She moved to Fingal in 1946 and lived there until the final years of her life when she moved to Extendicare - Port Stanley. Betty was a member of Fingal United Church U.C.W., Rebekah Lodge #143 Shedden and enjoyed ceramics, knitting and quilting. She especially enjoyed being a part of a warm circle of quilters who stitched not only for themselves, but to raise funds for their church. Visitation will be held at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) on Thursday, September 12, 2013 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 pm. The funeral will be held in the chapel on Friday at 11:00 am. Interment in Fingal Cemetery. If desired, donations to Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario, Canadian Hearing Society, or Caring Cupboard would be appreciated. Visitation
