Obituary of Donald R. Stewart

STEWART- Donald Ross of Metcalfe Gardens in St. Thomas, in his 86th year, completed his final journey and is now at rest. Don passed peacefully on Friday, January 12, 2018 at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital with family by his side. Beloved husband of the late Shirley Stewart (Cook) 2015. Loving father of Ron Stewart (Linda), Donna Dowding (Jim), Pat Huston (Larry), John Stewart (Barbara), Don Stewart (Jill), Mary Kay Burt (Tim) and Grandfather of 13 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren. Step father of Betty MacGregor, Don (Dianne) Cook, Mary Ellen Risser (Dave). Predeceased by Mary Stewart the mother of his 6 children in 2012, father Clarence Stewart, mother Hilda Bell, step father Gordon Bell and son-in-law Lenard Case. Don grew up, raised a family and farmed in the Melbourne area for many years. After Don met Shirley, they built a home and settled in the Shedden area, raising Chinchilla’s, spending winters with friends in Florida and travelling extensively throughout North America. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570). As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada. A short memorial service will begin at 3:00 pm with fellowship and refreshments to follow. Please join the family to celebrate a life well lived.
