Obituary of Ronald James Butters
BUTTERS, Ronald James – of St Thomas passed away at St Joseph’s Hospice on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 in his 85th year. Beloved husband of Rita Butters (nee Murray) of 63 years. Dear father of Brian Butters of London, Marlene Slipp (Jim) of Red Deer Alberta and Kevin Butters (Faye) of St Thomas. Dear grandfather of William (Brooke), Katherine, Kelly, and Patricia Slipp all of Red Deer Alberta and Patrick, Christopher, and Emma Butters all of St Thomas. Dear brother of Gord Butters (Jackie) of Chilliwack and Bill Butters of Cottam. Missed by sibling-in-laws Toady Butters of Edmonton, Sheila Butters of Windsor, Leon Murray (Rose Mary) of Toronto, Rose Costello (late Dan) of Kitchener, Mary Stapleton (Bob) of Kitchener, Patricia Murray (late Patrick) of London, Betty Murray (late Gilbert) of Ottawa and Don Coyne (Joanne) of Kelowna. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ron is predeceased by siblings Allan Butters (Jean), Glenn Butters, Phyllis Morris (Jack), Betty Ann Coyne, Loretta Butters, and several members of the Murray family. Ron was born in Dublin, Ontario to Thomas and Elizabeth (Hicknell) Butters. He was a graduate of the Ontario Trade School of Toronto and managed the Wilson & Somerville Heating & Air Conditioning department for 33 years. Ron was a life member of the Knights of Columbus and a founding member of St. Anne’s Parish. He was a member of the Muskoka Highlands Golf Club and the St. Thomas Duplicate Bridge Club. Ron enjoyed his summers in Bracebridge and winters in Florida. He was an avid boater and snowmobiler, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He loved his music, especially the violin and piano. Visitation will be held at Shawn Jackson Funeral Home, 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anne’s Parish, 20 Morrison Dr., St. Thomas on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 11:00 am. Cremation to follow. Private family interment of ashes will be held on a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Joseph's Hospice of London or the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital would be appreciated.
