Obituary of Bill Whisken
WHISKEN- William “Bill” passed away peacefully on December 28th, 2016 in his 79th year. Bill is survived by sister Joan Haycock, wife Fran Whisken, children Steve Whisken (Patti), Kelly Garrison (Tom), Trina Whisken, Sherry Whisken (Hugh Watson), Adam Whisken and Wayde Graves (Susan). Also survived by 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Predeceased by daughter Stephanie Jo, sons Harold and Bobby Anderson, brother Ron Whisken and sisters Georgina Moyes and Shirley Hemsley. Bill fulfilled many successes in his life. He enrolled in the army at the age of 17, where he learned to parachute having over 360 successful jumps. In the early 60’s he joined the St. Thomas Police Force, then later went on to join GMAC in collections. In August of 1970 Bill had a vision and went on to help fund and open the St. Thomas Jaycees swimming pool as a member of the Jaycees Service Club. He served as an alderman for the City of St. Thomas from 1970 to 1974. Bill was also the President of the Children’s Aid Society for Elgin County. In the 70’s Bill was awarded “Outstanding Young Man of The Year”. Bill also became a member of the ‘Gold Card Club” for donating blood over 100 times. After operating a family business for many successful years Bill went on to become the County Bailiff until his passing. Bill always helped the less fortunate and encouraged others to do the same. He will be remembered by many local businesses for his delivery of pizza at the end of each month. Most of all, Bill lived up to the phrase “I did it My Way”. There will be a celebration of Bills journey on Saturday January 7th, 2017 at the Centennial Sports Club from 1- 5 PM.
