I met Heather when we both started the fine arts program at Mount Allison, and she was my dearest friend for many years. I’m sharing here a picture of the two of us on a VERY cold and windy graduation day, and a picture I took of her on the ferry to Charlottetown, 1997. I will always miss her.

I’m afraid my message might be terribly long. I met Heather at Mt. Allison when we both started our second year in the fine arts program as new students together. She quickly became my closest friend, and we lived together there for two years. I’ve never had a better friend, or one I loved more, and I’ve been blessed with a few great ones.
We kept seeing each other after graduation since I was in Montreal and she was only two hours away in Ottawa. She had a hand in getting me together with my husband, since he had also gone to Mt. A and in a crazed drunken moment when I was visiting her we decided to call him up at his new school in Chicago! That was Heather—always up for anything, so much fun, and yet so sweet and thoughtful as well. One of those friends you can laugh with until you feel sick.
She was the matron of honour at my wedding, and only she knows how hard that was because my bouquet somehow weighed fifty pounds and she had to spend a lot of the ceremony holding it for me. Thank you, Heather. After I moved to the US in 2003, we no longer saw each other in person, but it was a joy to at least share our lives with each other on facebook.
There is a big hole left in the world when someone with Heather’s kind of spirit leaves us. But because of who she was, her light will always shine through it.

I only found out yesterday about Heather and am sad that I didn't hear earlier. I met Heather on a train from New Brunswick as we travelled home for the holidays from Mt. Allison in 1996. I was in my first year, she was in her last year. We became close friends in that last semester and kept in touch for the next 26 years. I deeply admired her creativity, her intellect, her passion, and her endlessly positive view of life. She was an inspiration and I am honoured to have been included in her journey.

Whenever I saw Heather in church she was always happy and boisterous. She aways was interested in what I did, and would be deeply concerned if I was down. She will be deeply missed by me and many others. She was concerned with anyone she met. I am deeply sorry for the family. My prayers go out to her family.

This photo is of Heather holding my newborn son, John, at my parents house on Willow Road in Guelph, June 2006.
Liam enjoyed meeting my parent’s dogs, Chloe (golden doodle, white) and Katie (standard poodle, apricot), during this visit.

Heathers creativity and kindness were unparalleled. Heather faced her challenges with strength, grace and courage, and abundant gratitude. Heather gave her fear to God and that gave her peace. I am honoured to be Heather’s cousin and will remember, treasure, and use the gifts that Heather has shared with her whole heart. My deepest condolences. Love, Linda

We really appreciate Heather’s warmth, kindness and creativity. She was such a kind and caring mom to her son and his friends. She went out of her way to make their sleepovers really special - I love the themed t-shirts she would make for the boys. She’s a really shining example of a great mom! She will be sorely missed.
1 Thessalonians 4:13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.

Heather and I grew up in the same part of Barrhaven. We met in Grade 5 when I moved onto St. Remy. I have memories of sleepovers, swimming in her pool and the infamous dog wedding. As people sometimes do, we drifted apart as we continued on our own journeys. We connected a few years back through FaceBook. Her strength in battling her illness was heroic. I am sad that we didn't get a chance to reconnect in person. My thoughts go to those who are missing her most. She will always be in your heart.

She was inspiring, always loving life no matter what, and loving all things. We shared a deep connection with animals, and this is something that I will always cherish.
I am honoured to be her aunt and will always miss her. Sending my deepest condolences. My thoughts are with you.

I was lucky to call Heather not only my cousin but also one of my best friends. She loved with all of her heart. She was an incredibly gentle soul, and saw the beauty in everything and everyone. One of her superpowers was making people feel special. I have never met anyone else like her.
She taught me about many things over the years...cooking, gardening, art, nature and spirituality to name a few. She also taught me the power of positivity, to trust myself, to believe in the magic all around us, and to never give up. I will miss her humour, spunk, laughter, wisdom and love.
"There are no words" seems like the only fitting thing to say. Sending my deepest condolences and huge hugs at this most difficult time. I love you and I'm so sorry for your loss.
Love, Katherine Nowack

Heather and I became friends as kids of Barrhaven. I met her through Cindy DesLauriers Elmy and the three of us became great friends. Enjoying being young ladies in the '80's. Both my friends became very smitten with my older brother, Norman (1969-2003) Heather was my brother's date to his high school graduation, she looked stunning in a yellow dress.
I reconnected with Heather through social media and it was like time had stood still. I cherish our chats and am in awe of Heather's very brave battle. Until we meet again....

It’s hard to express what Heather meant to me as a friend. She was literally the most loveliest person I had ever met. So kind, considerate, generous, loving, funny, the list goes on.
To lose someone so wonderful, so young, doesn’t seem fair. She was a treasure and I will always hold her in my heart.
My deepest condolences to her family during this most difficult time and especially to Liam.
You were the apple of your mum’s eye. She was so proud of you.
Much love,
Jessica Fediw.
