Obituary of Johanna Catharina Van Wyk

Van Wyk – Johanna “Joey” Catharina (nee Van Niekerk) of St. Thomas passed away at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the age of 72.  Johanna will be dearly missed by her children Brian (Mandi) Van Wyk of Ajax, Tanya (Sean) Dyke of St. Thomas, Jonathan (Morgan) Van Wyk of St. Thomas, and Will (Alisha) Van Wyk of Merlin; by her grandchildren Xander, Declan, Aaron, Hannah, Sarah, Ronen, Liam, and Caleb; by her separated spouse John Van Wyk of Belleville; her sister-in-law Annetjie (late Johannes) Van Niekerk; her niece Marna (Ruan) Van Nieuwenhuizen and nephew August (Dina) Van Niekerk; and by all those who came to know her over the years.  Johanna was born in Bethlehem, South Africa to the late Jannie and Kosie Van Niekerk.  Her family, grandchildren and friends were the joys of her life. She worked as a kindergarten teacher, daycare provider and in retail and was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church in St. Thomas.  A private family gathering was held prior to cremation.  A memorial service to celebrate Johanna’s life will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church 55 Hincks Street, St. Thomas on December 8th (Friday) at 11:00 am.  Visitation one hour prior to the service.  If desired, donations to Breast Cancer Research, or STEGH Foundation would be appreciated.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570).  Personal condolences to the family can be made at www.sjfh.ca
